Snow Hill is quiet and peaceful, but there is much to do to enjoy this small town filled with rich farmland that rests along the beautiful Pocomoke River. Two public parks – Sturgis Park and Byrd Park – grace the river’s banks, and the John Walter Smith Regional Park is just outside the town. Short drives to Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum, the Pocomoke River State Park, and to Assateague Island National Seashore Park.
The town is also an Arts and Entertainment district, offering tax incentives to attract artists and arts and entertainment enterprises. This allows the town to showcase artistic endeavors in many venues throughout the year, including Arts on the River, community art project and First Friday art strolls. This cultural renaissance continues in the Snow Hill branch of the Worcester County Library, which lectures, presentations, and activities for the little ones all year long.
Take a walking tour of this historic town and enjoy its architecture, or check out the artifacts at the Julia A. Purnell Museum, and beautiful works of art in the local galleries. The rich heritage of this area is celebrated daily at Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum and during a summer festival every August with the Blessing of the Combines. The Historic District Walking Tour provides a self-guided walk to see the town’s architectural history.
Snow Hill has about 2,300 year round residents and is the county seat of Worcester County, the only Maryland County that touches the Atlantic Ocean. In fact, the beaches of Assateague and Ocean City are just a short 20 minute drive away.
