At about one square mile in size, Milton is a quaint Victorian shipbuilding village often called Delaware's Smallest Wonder.
Situated just a short distance from the resort towns of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach on Delaware’s Eastern Shore, Milton is a friendly, thriving, clean and picturesque community with historic homes. Folks from nearby metropolitan areas consider Milton a their home at the sea shore. Its rural setting and mellow pace provide a relaxing environment for sunbathing, fishing or canoeing, dining or shopping for a lost treasure at a local antique shop.
Milton is located at the head of the Broadkill River which feeds into the Delaware Bay. Go for a stroll along Governor’s Walk along the river. Enjoy the water ways, fishing piers, and parks, especially the new Mill Park located along Mulberry Street. The town hosts many annual tournaments, river races, parades and historic house tours.
Milton is rich in history and architecture. Visit the newly renovated Lydia B. Cannon Museum located in the town’s historic district, which encompasses 200 homes listed on the National Register. Close by is the well known “Governor Hazzard” home. The past governor is the helmsman in the famous picture of George Washington crossing the Delaware. This historic home still retains a large portion of its 18th Century architectural elements. Despite its small size, the town produced five future governors.
